Beyond the image constructed by a "historiography" cut "romantic" and "liberal" on the Indians during the nineteenth century, in the sense that they were an obstacle to economic and social development, this article demonstrates that native the Colombian-Venezuelan Guajira in the period 1840-1861, were inserted into the world of movement of agricultural goods, leading to market Sinamaica Venezuelan populations and Guardias de Afuera the productive surpluses, agreeing to change to different genres of lacking. Although the exchange also generated disputes between Indians and Creoles, also recognized by the authorities the benefit of trade for the province of Maracaibo, which is why it was regulated.
