Abstract

MATA, Sara Emilia. Tierra y revolución: La campaña salteña en las primeras décadas del siglo XIXLand and revolution: The military campaign in Salta during the first decades of the XIXth century. Mundo agrar. [online]. 2016, vol.17, n.35, pp.00-00. ISSN 1515-5994.

In 1810, the formation of the Governing Council in Buenos Aires kicked off a political process that took diverse directions in the interior of the vast territory belonging to the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata. As in the provinces of the Alto Peru, the jurisdiction of Salta was the scene of a war of resources in which participated the rural population by integrating provincial militias or "Escuadrones Gauchos".  It is interesting then to observe to what extent the war conflict deepened and highlighted the tensions for the rights of ownership and usufruct of land already present at the end of the 18th century, particularly in the Lerma Valley. It is also focused its impacts on the disputes around land tenure that took place after the end of the war in the province of Salta.
