Resumen

GARCIA GONZALEZ, Francisco. Servants and domestic workers in the rural world of inland Spain, 1700-1860: Social inequality and dependence. Mundo agrar. [online]. 2017, vol.18, n.39, pp.00-00. ISSN 1515-5994.

After a previous reflection of the contents, meanings and significance of being a servant in the inlands rural Castilian world, this article contextualizes the magnitude of the phenomenon comparing it with other Spanish regions and opposed to the life cycle model. Attention is drawn to the causes that justify their entity, the masters’ characteristics, the unequal distribution of property and the impact of this fact on working and dependence processes. As an inequality symbol, we are going into detail about the houses of labor's role. These buildings, as a type of microcosm, united the different working categories of servants. When the hierarchies and typologies are analized, we are adressing the relationship between paid salaries and the job and age experience

Palabras clave : Servants; Rural world; Social inequality; Spain; Castile-La Mancha; XVIII-XIX centuries.
