Abstract

PEREZ TRENTO, Nicolás. Dos décadas de conflicto en torno al uso propio de semillas de soja genéticamente modificada en Argentina: fases del enfrentamiento, acumulación de capital, y actores sociales (1996-2018). Mundo agrar. [online]. 2019, vol.20, n.43, pp.105.e1-105.e2. ISSN 1515-5994.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.24215/15155994e105.

In this paper we aim to analyze the content of the conflict that arose in Argentina over genetically modified soybeans, which involved a multiplicity of social actors. In fact, although the claim for the payment of royalties was led by Monsanto, the breeders made the same demands, allying with the firm. These pretensions would be confronted by different organizations, among which the Sociedad Rural Argentina and the Federación Agraria Argentina stand out. In turn, the Kirchnerist government would also face these claims, with changing vehemence. After briefly characterizing the dynamics of the conflict using documents, journalistic notes and interviews, we will try to explain its content based on an analysis of the social wealth at stake, in the context of the specificity of capital accumulation in Argentina.

Keywords : Landlords; Land rent; Royalties; Monsanto; Soybean seeds; Argentina.
