Academic journals are a crucial element in the configuration and the dynamics of scientific disciplines, as well as a main component of the power structure of fields of knowledge. This article analyzes the situation of academic journals in the field of education in Argentina from 2001 to 2013. The article is organized in three parts: The first one presents some general features (including aspects such as editing agencies, regional distribution, frequency, etc.) of the whole of journals that were identified. In the second section we analyze the titles with higher publication frequency in terms of structure, thematic orientation, and indexation in data bases. The last part depicts some patterns of articles' authorship in order to establish to what extent journals have become exchange channels at the national level and internationally.
