This article proposes to reflecton the context of emergence and production of the Journal "Espacios en Blanco" as an academic and university publication, which releases results of educational research since 1994. This analysis focuses on the period from 1980 to 2015. On this period will appearing a series of educational journals that contribute to greater institu-tionalization of the field of science of education, product of democratic continuity that has enabled the strengthening of research at universities and other academic centers, science policiesnational and international and greater standardization of editorial guidelines.
