The pedagogical missions are strategies that seek to produce knowledge on foreign and about themselves, in order to reshape ongoing projects, signing up there investments in education. In this paper, we analyze specific representations of America in two book reports of Celestin Hippeau, in which he examines the experiences of the United States and Argentina (1871 and 1879, respectively). Based on this documentation, we focus on two themes for a more detailed reflection on the marks of the narrative and the legitimate pedagogical models, based on the treatment given to the education of women and the issue of race. As a procedure, we try to intersect the documents to consider the representations made about public education and observe the play between what we know and what is forged in studies to give to see the projects in progress, the mediations established and the program that French teacher seeks legitimize.
