This article aims to analyze the contributions and limits of the main explanations about the origin and development of the Plan de Finalización de Estudios Primarios y Secundarios para Jóvenes y Adultos II (FinEs II) in its secondary course. The exposition advances by presenting the recent evolution of secondary education in Argentina, the contributions of those who investigate the FinEs II plan, as well as a series of problems and questions that arise from their productions. It is argued that even though significant progress has been made with regard to various specific aspects of the program, research on this object of study present a series of difficulties in explaining central issues such as State action in relation to secondary education for youth and adults, as well as in terms of the school format and the knowledge provided in the FinEs II plan.
