The grasshoppers can produce yield reduction iu several kinds of crops, depending on the species. the dcvelopmental stage, the populalion density, the si/e and the agroecosystem productmty. The daily ingestión of Rluwunatocenis pictus, A/euas lineatus, Amblytropidia australis. Dichroplus elongatus and Dichromorpha australis was quantilied. The grasshoppers. eollected in the íleld. vvere weigthed and kept ¡n cages with leaves of corn and alfalfa as Ibod, which were also weigthed before and after given to de grasshoppers. every day. Pernales of R. pictus had the highest corn ingestión. 1.39 g/day. and D. elongatus had the highest alfalfa ingestión. 0.30 g/day. with significan! diflerences among sexes and the kind of food. All the species consumed per day more ihan their own weigth and the males of D aiistralis consumed 241 % of their own weight of corn and 108 % of alfalfa.
