Colana Conglomerate, outcrops on the western fank of Sierra de Ambato. It corres-ponds to a metamorphic monomictic psamitic- psefitic quartz, conformably intercalated in the Cambrian phyllites of La Cébila Formation and metamorphised in Ordovician times. By structural relationships, concordant with phyllites, we consider them as members of the same sedimentary complex, deformed later in shallow levels. Outcrops are res-tricted in thickness and areal extent, displaying different deformation behaviors from cataclastic to mylonitic showing local ribbon quartz fenoclasts and poli-deformation. Its genesis is a major problem, in relation to an area with a stron-gly quartz contribution, of which there is no visible evidence.
