Abstract

CASTRO GODOY, Silvia Edith et al. DETECTION OF ZEOLITES WITH ASTER IN STONE STOP-BUITRERA, MI-DDLE CHUBUT RIVER, PROVINCE OF CHUBUT. Ser. correl. geol. [online]. 2017, vol.33, n.1, pp.1-10. ISSN 1666-9479.

The Geological and Mining Survey of Argentina, SEGEMAR, carries out the "Prospection of Sedimentary Zeolites in Argentina" project through the Geological Mineral Resources Department with the participation of several areas, including the Remote Sensing and GIS Division. The results obtained from ASTER data digital processing in Piedra Parada area, Río Chubut Medio, Cushamen and Languiñeo departments, at the NW of Chubut province are presented in this work, related to fallen tufits reworked and de-posited in a volcanic caldera (Tufolitas Laguna de Hunco, Paleocene-Eocene). As a classification method the Spectral Angle Mapper algorithm was applyed and spectral patterns of clinoptilolite, heulandite, mordenite and analcima were selected from USGS database. With a probability of oc-currence map, an exhaustive fieldwork and sample collection were carried out with the objective of determining the variability in zeolite distribution, its composition and validation of the image processing methodology. X-ray diffraction method (XRD) was applied and the diffractograms were interpreted to determine that the zeolitic rocks are composed mainly of clinoptilolite and / or heulandite. The characterization was complemented by reflectance measurements with spec-troradiometer which allowed adjusting the spectral classification and the assembly of the spectral base of zeolites of Chubut. Geological, vector and raster data, and XRD were loaded into data-bases and exported to a GIS for its integration. The results allow to validate the methodology of digital processing and to continue using it in the detection of zeolitic rocks in other Argentina regions in order to contribute and expand the prospection.
