This contribution aims to: a-analyse the environmental protection categories of the province of Tierra del Fuego (Argentina), thinking about the rol of geoconservation in local regulations and taking into account the Global Geopark Network, sponsored by UNESCO; and b-identify geodiversity resources in natural protected areas taking into account their geodidactic potential. Considering nowadays international initiatives to safeguard geological heritage and the consolidation of geoparks, this work is based on the hypothesis that no Fuegian protection denomination explicitly refers to geodiversity, in spite of having multiple georesources. From the application of a survey sheet designed ad-hoc to describe each protected area, the need to review the System of Protected Areas is noted. The possibility of incorporating geoparks within local regulations as a means to guarantee the geoconservation and disclosure of Earth Sciences in the Fuegian environment is discussed.
