Resumen

MERCADO, M et al. Effects of magnetic fields on muscle oxidative metabolism in response to prolonged exposure. InVet [online]. 2016, vol.18, n.1, pp.85-92. ISSN 1668-3498.

An electric field is a force created by the attraction and repulsion of electric charges. Its application in biological tissue was initiated by the German physiologist Du Bois-Reymond (1818-1896). Currently pulsed magnetic fields of low frequency are commonly used in physical therapy rehabilitation treatment of reversible neurological injuries musculoskeletal system and as an adjunct to orthopedic surgeries. In the present protocol, particularly the variable of time of exposure to pulsed magnetic fields with the corresponding assessment of the effect on skeletal muscle using immunohistochemistry and morphometric analysis of muscle fibers. Fundamentals were determined on treatment with pulsed magnetic fields (PMF), considering that the bibliographic information provides data on the frequency and intensity of magnetic fields, leaving without a specific definition of the variable exposure time. It is of fundamental importance to know the biological and therapeutic effects of physical therapy techniques used in clinical practice, as well as knowing the correct application of the variables: frequency, intensity and time each treatment needs.

Palabras clave : Magnetic Fields; Exposure time; Skeletal muscle.
