In recent years, under the impetus of neoliberal logics and policies, the problem of crime, now naturalized in many sectors as "insecurity", constitutes an issue rooted in political, social and media agendas. In the mass media, although crime is not a “new” topic, its definition and treatment have changed substantially becoming an undeniable political agenda. On this premise, this paper attempts to study a corpus of “insecurity” and crime news in the hegemonic press. Our goal is to analyze and interpret the representations of subjects and territories that appear in these discourses and its potential contributions to the installation or distortion of a critical debate on social inclusion and national integration.
