LINDENBOIM, Federico Mario. The struggle for the radio: Government, unions and spectacle in the origins of peronism (1943-1946). Trama comun. [online]. 2020, vol.24, n.2, pp.15-31. ISSN 1668-5628.
Until mid XXth Century, radio played a fundamental role in shaping hegemony, and was almost the only source of information and cultural reference point for the popular sector. It was a fundamental part in the media policy during the first peronism. However, the military government where Perón constructed its public persona and political capital remains relatively unexplored in academic studies, especially through the political actions on media. This paper aims to outline the relationship between military powers, radio owners, the star system, and radio workers unions from 1943 until the end of the radio worker’s strike in 1946. In doing so, I explore the shifting dynamics between radio worker’s unions and the military government during this period, as well as others involved in the spectacle field at the time. This paper postulates that strike ended this confrontation period, and allowed the peronist government to effectively achieved a dominant position in the field, which led to an heteronomy proces in it.
