The fast development of the humid Argentine Pampa at the end of the XIXth century was not present in other regions. Chaco and Patagonia were marginal areas, while Salta was one of the regions excluded from the expansion which incorporated Argentine into the capitalism. Salta´s governing elites devised different strategies to keep power and integrate successfully into the dominant group. This article is based on the exploratory and descriptive analysis of the budgets of Salta between 1880-1914 and studies how these budgets were spent. Its objective is to show the strategies developed by some families to keep control of the provincial state and increase their patrimonies.
