Resumen

DE VIANA, Marta Leonor  y  CARDOZO, Claudia Paola. Diagnosis Of Respiratory  Diseases In Campo Quijano, Salta-Argetina. Andes [online]. 2008, n.19, pp.373-383. ISSN 1668-8090.

Campo Quijano is a village located at 30 km away from Salta city and has 8300 inhabitants. In its urban area there are two boron industries that represent pollution sources of air, soil and water.  We studied the prevalence of respiratory diseases in the urban population during the year 2005. We worked with the data from spread-sheets of external daily consultations from Hospital Francisco Herrera. We considered four groups of diseases, selected by the symptomatology and its possible association with the industries gas emissions: rhinitis; colds, spasms and irritative cough. We estimated and compared the prevalence of diseases by neighborhood with the tests of X2 and Haberman (for adjusted residuals). Spasms and colds were the more frequent diseases in the population of Campo Quijano. In rhinitis no differences were found between neighborhoods. San Roque had the highest prevalence in CVAs, spasms and irritative cough. Different prevalences were found in neighborhoods close to boron industries. This might be related to social and cultural characteristics, health and economic conditions, among other risk factors not considered in this diagnosis.

Palabras clave : Prevalence; Respiratory Sickness; Gas Emissions.
