Abstract

MORALEJO, Reinaldo Andrés. The Inka Road at the central sector of the Province of Catamarca: update and overview. Andes [online]. 2012, vol.23, n.1. ISSN 1668-8090.

The aim of this work is to present the last investigations on the Inka roads at the valley of Río Quimivil and the mountain interfluve of Sierra de Zapata, in the Province of Catamarca. The methodology consisted of the empirical recognition of roads and their associated components, such us sites or settlements, materials on surface, constitutive elements of the landscape, among others. The site El Shincal has been considered as the central settlement from which two Inka roads separate, one in direction of the Valle de Abaucán by Cuesta de Zapata, and another in direction of the agricultural fields of Las Vallas through the valley of Río Quimivil. In this way it is possible to incorporate new communication routes in this part of the Province of Catamarca and begin to establish the interregional social links at the moment of Inka expansion.
