Abstract

LONGHI, Fernando. Poverty and infant mortality: A theoretical approach to their relations. Andes [online]. 2013, vol.24, n.2, pp.00-00. ISSN 1668-8090.

This work identifies the main manifestations that connect the phenomena of poverty and child mortality, an issue that has not arisen a major interest in the social sciences. This interaction allows us to propose the rate of child mortality as a consequence of poverty diseases as an approximate measure of poverty- understood from the structural approach. This socio-demographic indicator of continuous genesis would enable- among other possibilities- the knowledge of the annual rate of poverty along with the elaboration of the mapping necessary to define its spatial distribution detecting its variations in time and space.

Keywords : Vital rates; Socio-demographic indicators; Child mortality; Poverty; Child health.
