The article deals with the facts and reasons concerning tenants and landowners’ conflicts in the Quebrada de Humahuacain the beginning of 1880s. In order to contextualize this phenomenon from a social point of view, it is necessary to revisit Guillermo Madrazo’s studies of the concept of hacienda tenants, introduced in the 80s of the XXth century. A parallelism with similar events in the Argentine Puna was made to include them into the same redefining process related to property in Jujuy’s "highlands". A final consideration of Steve Stern’s analytic categories in relation to the Andean experience of peasants’ revolts is made in order to provide a number of interpretative keys about the subject.
