Resumen

PLOMER, Florencia. A prosopographic approach to the spanish conquerors of Tucuman (1535-1600). Andes [online]. 2018, vol.29, n.2, pp.00-00. ISSN 1668-8090.

In the historical process of the first entrances and military expeditions to Tucumán, and the subsequent process of invasion and foundation of cities during the second half of the 16th century, we defined our general research problem as the process of transformation of the members of the army into vecinos encomenderos. In some cases, these conquerors have a peculiar territorial mobility in the course of the conquest and invasion. Using the prosopographic method, we propose to reconstruct the trajectories of those who, once settled in Tucumán, continue to move -participating in different campaigns despite having achieved an encomienda of Indians and neighborhood-, taking the cases mainly from the Probanzas de Méritos y Servicios  published by Roberto Levillier. In this opportunity we will focus on three cases of extreme mobility: Hernán Mejía Miraval, Alonso Díaz Caballero and Gonzalo Sánchez Garzón. Our aim is to show that the process of transformation of soldiers into vecinos was not linear or direct, and what prevailed in this process was the constant mobilization of human, economic and political resources before - and even after- settling definitively in a city.

Palabras clave : Conquest Tucumán; Prosopography; Vecino encomendero; Probanzas; Conquerors.
