The texts included in this Dossier face the complex challenge of analyzing the way in which substanted dimensions of local pasts were explored, from historiographic traditions, essays, or from the memory of different provinces governments. The articles included, have the objective of tracing the itineraries in which the provincial trajectories where thought, their leaders and past, and the way in which part of their elites appropriated that narratives, mainly taking as a reference in this case the provinces of northern Argentina. The proposal presented here brings together four case studies that present new evidence about the way in which national history was intertwined with local histories. This articulation constituted in fact one of the central challenges of those who constructed the first interpretations of Argentinian past from the mid-nineteenth century, giving a privileged place to the action carried out by the elites linked to the central state. Those first narratives were constructed by leaders identified with republican traditions, such as president and historian Bartolomé Mitre.
