Abstract

FINOL, José Enrique. De niña a mujer... el rito de pasaje en la sociedad contemporáneaFrom girlhood to womanhood... the growing rite in contemporary society. Cuad. Fac. Humanid. Cienc. Soc., Univ. Nac. Jujuy [online]. 2001, n.17, pp.171-185. ISSN 1668-8104.

This article analyses the growing up rite in contemporary society, that is why we study the 15 year anniversary party, a frequent celebration in Venezuela and in many Latin American countries, where the transition ritual is carried out which permits to approach to contemporary social values there expressed. We postulate the hypothesis according to which the growing up rite thanks to the innovation by his actors becomes, nowadays, a solidarity instrument, and defense of certain familiar values, confronted with the processes that promote a cultural globalization and a reduction of diversity. From Van Gennep model, it is proposed a semiotic model of "ritual signification that attains to explain the structure of his work.
