Abstract

A revisión of the archaeological ethnohistoric and colonial information of the peoples that inhabite at Jujuy Puna Region or High Plateau is carried out. Corresponding evidences of the Prehispanic societies are presented, these societies dwelt in Jujuy High Plateau Region, we make special reference to the settlement patterns, goods and chattels findings, funerary and parietal art. In this context, the organization and the archaeological site are discussed as well as the outstanding constructive techniques. A revision of the information provided by different researchers treating an ethnic assignment of the ancient inhabitans is carried out, in spite of the littleethnohistoric information of Jujuy Puna region available. Different stances are contrasted with the data obtained from archaeology, and they are collated with the colonial documents of the same sector. The information obtained let us formulate a hypothesis a more precise territorial allocation for the different ethnic groups in Jujuy Puna region before the coming of the European people. Afterwards, this kind of use and control of this territory was subject to great changes as a consequence of the colonial administration, even though part an important of this territory went on being occupied by their ancient prehispanic owners.
