Abstract
MARTINEZ, Jorge G. and ASCHERO, Carlos A.. Experimental projectiles: Inca Cueva 7 as a study case. Cuad. Fac. Humanid. Cienc. Soc., Univ. Nac. Jujuy [online]. 2003, n.20, pp.351-364. ISSN 1668-8104.
In the framework of Experimental Archaeology, the results of an experimental test done with stone projectile points replicas, are presented. These replicas were manufactured folowing the lanceolate design of archaeological projectile points recovered in Inca Cueva 7 site (ca.4000 years BP), at 3860 m over sea level, in the Puna of Jujuy (Argentina). The objetives oriented towards determination of the interrelation between the techno-morphological design of the replicas and its resistance to impact, and evaluation of the mechanical behavior of the launching technical system components: atlatl and projectile (compound shaft). The experimental design was executed in three stages: replication (N = 10), projectiles assembling and use/ throwing towards a bone target. After impacts the final state of the projectiles were evaluated, regarding their relation with the archaeological cases.
