Resumen
RASPI, Emma T.. Tenderos and pulperos: urban petty merchants of Salta and Jujuy in the 19th century). Cuad. Fac. Humanid. Cienc. Soc., Univ. Nac. Jujuy [online]. 2003, n.21, pp.23-39. ISSN 1668-8104.
This paper analyzes the petty merchant in the nineteenth-century urban centers of Salta and San Salvador de Jujuy in a comparative perspective. The types of establishments, their commercial strategies, and their contacts and conflicts with other merchants are examined. The effects of war and political problems for these merchants are also taken in to account. Despite the political turmoil, the small-scale commercial establishments thrived during this period. These places were important centers of sociability for the urban lower orders, despite attempts by city governments to restrict them.
