Resumen

MORILLO, Edith Elizabeth. Elites, mercantile networks and merchant's court of salta during first half of 19th century. Cuad. Fac. Humanid. Cienc. Soc., Univ. Nac. Jujuy [online]. 2003, n.21, pp.41-58. ISSN 1668-8104.

This paper examines the merchants of Salta, a group that increased in importance during the nineteenth century. It shows how merchant and political actors were intertwined during the first half of the nineteenth century, giving the former great political power in provincial affairs. This includes their participation in the various provincial Merchant's Courts during the civil wars, a period during which the merchant sector underwent considerable change due to exogenous political factors. The fundamental objective is to show how the mercantile and political sectors worked together, based on the Acts of the Merchant's Court, the correspondence with the provincial government, as well as other sources.

Palabras clave : Commerce courts; elites; emigrations policies.
