Abstract

GIANFRANCISCO, María Soledad. Functionality aproximation of a determined type of enclosure present in Campo del Pucará (Andalgalá Dept, Catamarca), from a geoarhaeologic perspective. Cuad. Fac. Humanid. Cienc. Soc., Univ. Nac. Jujuy [online]. 2005, n.29, pp.95-111. ISSN 1668-8104.

The objective of this work is to carry out an approach to the functionality of a certain type of enclosure present in Campo del Pucará (Depto Andalgá, Catamarca). We parted with the hypothesis that they are supposed corrals, as has been previously outlined by Tartusi and Núñez Regueiro (1998).    This work will be approached from a geoarchaeological perspective that tries to contribute with the archaeological interpretations. Following this, the thematic lines considered were the factors associated with the preferences in the selection of the places of establishment and the specific characteristics that these present and also an analysis of soils both in the exterior and interior of the enclosures, with the purpose of determining similarities and differences among them. Lastly, the valuation of the associated cultural elements.    The analyzed evidences allow concluding that these enclosures could have functioned as domestic units, since the disposition and association of certain materials permits us to suppose that these elements work as structures that concentrate domestic activities.
