Resumen

LAUDANO, Claudia. "Gender": we used to love you so much... Cuad. Fac. Humanid. Cienc. Soc., Univ. Nac. Jujuy [online]. 2006, n.31, pp.147-160. ISSN 1668-8104.

The article presents some reflections about the development of “gender” category in Argentina, during the decade of the 90’, in the context of the feminist debate between “the equality” and “the sexual difference” perspectives; examining critically at some arguments of the confrontation, especially referring to the sexual difference one. Then, it considers some limitations of the gender category and its uses and extensions through the case studies of organisations belonging to three social movements of the country (syndicalism, human rights and ecology). In general, the category is widely spread, including its ubiquity and polysemy. Finally, the contributions that the “sexual difference” category could make are presented so as to analyse and understand in a complex way the actions of women, especially referred to the dimensions of the unconscious and to new epistemological ways of thinking about feminist subjects. Nevertheless, it is not considered the alternative to replace the gender category, which requires reformulation.
