Abstract

SORIA, Silvia Susana. Settlement system in the Chañi sierra during the regional development period (Salta). Cuad. Fac. Humanid. Cienc. Soc., Univ. Nac. Jujuy [online]. 2007, n.32, pp.269-285. ISSN 1668-8104.

It is presented a preliminary characterization of the archaeological sites system in the south of Chañi Sierra, in the basin of El Toro and Potrero de Castillo gorge (Salta province) during the Regional Development Period. Up to the present, the analysis is basically descriptive and in the future the aim is to consider other characteristics. Taken into account the previous investigations and the ones undertaken in recent years it is described the superficial archaeological record for the period mentioned. The indicators considered includes: location, size, building characteristics, emplacement, associated items and probable chronology of the sites. The model of occupation during the Regional Development Period in both gorges (Boman, 1908; Von Rosen, 1957; Cigliano, 1973; Cigliano y Raffino, 1977; Raffino, 1988) was interpreted as a homogeneous pattern. Despite the settlement system shows homogeneous pattern as regards altitudinal location, topography and ecology, only a few constructive and architectonic sets can be consider within the semi conglomerate associated type. Within the settlements there are different architectonical forms that show heterogeneity. The diversity that is thought to be contemporaneous shows multicomponental sites.
