Abstract

MENDEZ GARCIA, Rosa María. University as a socializing agent: an analysis from the point of view of students. Cuad. Fac. Humanid. Cienc. Soc., Univ. Nac. Jujuy [online]. 2008, n.34, pp.151-169. ISSN 1668-8104.

This article presents some of results obtained during the investigation "The attitude of students towards University as an indicator of quality", a Doctoral Thesis defended in 2007. It is an extensive work that provides a detailed analysis about the role of the University as a socializing agent in the process of forming attitudes of students, through the information that the University provides. The investigation is made among 554 students of the last courses of 12 of the degrees which are now being taught at the university of Santiago de Compostela. And the information is achieved through the application of a questionnaire of 327 items about 55 aspects, which give a complete radiography of the university institution as a context of training and socializing. The results of the investigation show that there is a trend common to university students in nowadays society, as well as the role of university as a training and socializing institution in relation to the development of such trends. Therefore, the aim of this work is to make readers think about two questions: which are the beliefs, values and attitudes of university students inside and towards university?, and what is the role of university as a socializing agent, through the information which conveys?

Keywords : university students; information; socialization and university.
