VILLENA, Angélica Isabel. Literature and cinema as transformative experiences. Speaking of "The name of the rose". Cuad. Fac. Humanid. Cienc. Soc., Univ. Nac. Jujuy [online]. 2015, n.47, pp.41-51. ISSN 1668-8104.

The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco and Jean-Jacques Annaud´s film version, is a laboratory of insatiable knowledge which serves as semiotic guide, as both run through tracks, signs and symbols to account that the cinema and literature are not just constructions, but meaningful experiences that mobilize emotions, give meaning and trigger memories.           In this double value, literature has contributed to its expressive sensitivity, but the cinema has been able to process the stylistic and rhetorical possibilities of the language not only from his dialogues, glosses, cadences, rhythms and tonal inflections, but also and more powerfully from expressive resonance images.           They are two different art pieces, two different languages, that is the reason why the adaptation is not only performs a translation of contents, but it involves the development of a new semiotic structure that is achieved effectively through the optics used by the director to enhance the expressionist treatment of the faces that transmit human passions, while activating the viewer´s emotion. These aspects promote this research work in order to crosslink the languages and analyze the emotional depth generated in the audience, so that the methodology that holds is the metacognitive experience, understood as a set of cognitive and affective conscious experiences.           This is why the cinema and literature are intensity, intimacy and ubiquity, since the film and literary image gives reality a specific vision, music and descriptions reinforce the penetration and, above all, there is a syntactical and semantical construction that brings audience into the plot, by means of the faces, objects, settings, among other effects. Finally, with all this, time and space transmission is produced not only at the time of the film but also at the time of the spectator.           Thus, the perception is becoming affective to the extent that cinema and literature provide a subjective image that allows the building of a passionate experience of reality which is now assumed as individual
