BRUCE, Beatriz e GRESORES, Gabriela. How to live on a burning world: The impact of independence war in the daily life of women. Cuad. Fac. Humanid. Cienc. Soc., Univ. Nac. Jujuy [online]. 2015, n.48, pp.13-27. ISSN 1668-8104.
This research work covers the war period in the North of Argentina, more specifically what is now the Province of Jujuy, from 1810 to 1825. We will concentrate on recovering components coming from the impact caused on women at that period. There are several and different reasons for choosing the subject. Beyond the fact that we belong to the female genre, the delay and recognition of women’s actions during the war in Jujuy makes this a challenge and an effort as a documental recovery which will help to trace out a hidden history. The idea is to change from an established ontology and break that unifying and unified story thus allowing readings from other perspectives. Thus it will be seen -through two scenes- how the war, an exception state when considering everyday life, is a context where women are allowed, on one hand to open themselves to the practice of forbidden things, and on the other to generate situations of extreme suffering. A case is described, taken from the documental files of the Law Court of Jujuy, as a model to present the scenario of opportunity, while it is used, as images of the second situation, literary narrations and oral stories
