The human occupation of the northern coast of San Matías Gulf (Río Negro, Argentina) began at the Middle Holocene; during Middle and Late Holocene the consumption of marine resources occurred with different intensity over time. As other regions of Patagonian coast, the coast of Rio Negro is characterized by a high geomorphological dynamic, framed by episodes of sea advance and retreat that led to changes in the coastline. Along with this, the variation in resource consumption may have affected the form of provisioning and exploitation of lithic raw materials. In this paper we analyze these variations over time in the light of technological organization perspective and using different index to measure of rocks intensity reduction. The results show that major changes in the exploitation of lithic raw materials are recorded towards the Late Holocene, from 1500 years BP, and that changes in the coastline, with consequent modifications in the availability of the rock sources, were not decisive in human decisions about the use of lithic raw materials
