Since the conceptualization of Formative as a long-term concept (Korstanje 2005), a frame of reference is granted that allows an approach to the social actors, their choices, and their daily life. In general terms in formative lithic assemblages non-local obsidian is registered mostly in small stemmed projectile points. This does not happen with the lithic material from those moments in Puesto Viejo, Quebrada de Los Corrales, in Tucumán, where there is almost no presence of obsidian and the projectile points are made of quartz and its design seems to be a continuity of ancient ones. Objects are used to negotiate different relationships in different interaction networks by interlacing and linking diverse social and ecological landscapes. In this sense, the circulation of material culture creates networks that have an influence in the construction of identities, in addition to expanding spatial scales and generating connections and social relations between spaces and distant subjects. From the analysis of the lithic assemblage of Puesto Viejo, we reflect on these issues and some hypotheses that can account for this materiality in its historical context are proposed. Results aim to think that observed patterns in lithic material would not be the result of geographic isolation but would respond to social patterns related to identity and/ or territoriality, since there is no doubt about the evidence of interactions with other areas of the NOA even from other materialities.
