Abstract
FERNANDEZ, María José. Model for measuring levels of poverty in Argentina. Vis. futuro [online]. 2015, vol.19, n.1. ISSN 1668-8708.
Poverty, like many other economic and social concepts, is a complex phenomenon of specify. In general, it is associated to the lack of resources to satisfy the needs of a population or group of reference, without having the ability and opportunity to produce those resources needed. As it is a complex and multidimensional phenomenon, there are multiple definitions and ways to measure it. The tools provided by the theory of fuzzy sets allow to capture gray zones present in the population standard of living, nuances that are presented not only by subjective nature phenomena, but also by phenomena of situational and contextual character. This paper presents a model to classify households in accordance with the degree of belonging to the set of indigent and poor households. It is determined degrees of poverty and extreme poverty taking into account the household income and the valuation of the basic food basket and the total basic basket.
