The genus Cedrela includes tropical and sub-tropical trees with high value timber on the market. The species are distributed in a range that extends from southern Mexico to Argentina, where they can be found within the Yungas and Paranaense Rainforest. Face of global climate change, biodiversity loss, changes in the dynamics of species distributions over time and how they behave in different habitats are currently intensively studied topics. In this regard, the evaluation of behavior between and within the different provenances of Cedrela fissilis, C. balansae, C. saltensis and natural hybrid between these last two, compared to commercial standards checks in different environments, provides basic information for domestication programs and plans for sustainable production and conservation in the context of national law 26.331 of land administration. For this reason three field trials located in ecologically contrasting sites were evaluated in the NOA. Species and provenances were compared in terms of height growth and survival until the third year in the Siambón (Tucumán-Selva Montana La Moraleja (Salta-Umbral al Chaco) and The Fronterita (Tucumán-Pedemonte). The experiment was conducted in a complete randomized block design with 16 replications in La Moraleja and La Fronterita, and eight repetitions in El Siambón. A significant interaction among species provenances, and the test site was found. Survival was affected after the first winter, reveling a high sensitivity to low temperatures of this genus in the period of “establishment”. Results also revealed that precipitations on the sites from which the seeds come have a significant effect on the variables studied in each evaluation site. Those populations from drier sites were best adapted to the La Moraleja and those from wetter sites performed best in El Siambón. In addition, the survival of populations increased as the absolute minimum temperature increased. This study emphasizes the importance of considering the origin of the seeds for a forestry project involving these species. The material remaining in each site and achieved the highest development is very valuable and will serve as a source for further domestication program for productive purposes and rescue the genetic material for conservation.
