The aims of the work were: to describe the forest resources of Eucalyptus globulus Labill. of the southeast of the province of Buenos Aires - Argentina, in terms of age, provenances and soils; to determine the basic wood density and to analyze their variability. The basic density was determined on 110 studied trees. Samples were taken at breast height (1,3 m on level of the soil), according to TAPPI T 254-om-94. The average of the basic density was 517.74 kg/m³ (sd: 42.80 kg/m³), with a minimum of 419.28 kg/m³ and a maximum of 637.87 kg/m³. Wood density was inside the range of E. globulus densities reported in other countries. The composition of the resource according to age was in the range 10-16 years. The provenances were: two Chilean, a Local and a Portuguese. The basic density did not register important differences between ages from the technological point of view and did not demonstrate significant differences between provenances.The 60% of the sampled trees were implanted in suitable and very suitable soils for the growth of the species, whereas 40% remaining it was in little to not suitable soils .The average values of basic density showed significant differences according to the aptitude of the soils for the growth of the species. The highest wood density was registered in not suitable soils.
