The aim was to develop a simulation model of pasture quality dynamics on the basis of morphogenetic approach that takes into account the effects of leaf age and length on the forage digestibility in relation to management defoliation. The model was created by detailed data of tall fescue (F. arundinacea) leaf morphogenesis, and their NDF content and in vitro digestibility of NDF and DM (NDFD and DMD). The model was validated against observed data from two pasture regrowths differing in residual pasture height. The model simulated with reasonable accuracy the morphogenesis and leaf quality dynamics of pasture regrowth from different pasture residual height. The variations of leaf quality during regrowth of vegetative pasture were due to changes in NDFD. These results indicate that the variations of NDFD in relation to leaf morphogenesis allowed to improve the prediction of a pasture quality model.
