Against certain claims that have underestimated the role of the corporeity in order to achieve the human fulfillment, Aquinas argues strongly that "the soul united to the body is more like God" than when separated from it. With solid biblical foundations, the Dominican theologian rejects the understanding of the human body as a nuisance or, at least, as a second substance merely added to the rational soul, and therefore he holds that the human being can only attain its full perfection as a whole reality, that is, as indivisible unity of body and spiritual soul.
