Abstract

REISS, Nilo. The Persistent Challenge of the Homo brasiliensis. Enfoques [online]. 2019, vol.31, n.2, pp.47-68. ISSN 1669-2721.

One of the great challenges in South American countries, in the era of the globalization markets, is to secure a position in the international arena as a modern nation and that desire drives Brazil as well. However, there are economic and cultural conditions about the foundation of this country that still have repercussions on present political and economic choices, and this historical-cultural dimension, guided by an individualistic view, an outcome from a patrimonial tradition, favour an personification of the interests of minorities to the detriment of the collective, generating practical consequences in the formation of the so-called "jeitinho brasileiro". Guided by literary sources, this essay seeks to look back in to the past to understand this Brazilian characteristic that personalize public issues, in a confluence of historical, political and cultural elements that report the modus operandi of the Homo brasiliensis and are reflected in the present.

Keywords : Homo brasiliensis; Literature; Politics; Cordial; Impersonality.
