The present article takes the proposition "information is power" as the starting point to state that this is also valid for the information provided by the National Statistical System (SEN). Two mechanisms are described in order to analyze the situation in Argentina in what comes to these affairs: the evident manipulation of information in contingent politics, and the production of ideologically biased data, which is how they have been displayed in the last few decades. To do so, it will give account of some of the effects of these procedures in terms of social dimensions, be it those we know little about or even nothing at all. It is remarked the urgent need of social scientists taking active part in every change that must take place in the organization of SEN. Without this commitment, the Argentinean social sciences will keep being as limited in their practice as they currently are in their most relevant matters.
