ALVARADO, Sara Victoria; OSPINA, Héctor Fabio; BOTERO, Patricia  e  MUNOZ, Germán. Las tramas de la subjetividad política y los desafíos a la formación ciudadana en jóvenes. Rev. argent. sociol. [online]. 2008, vol.6, n.11, pp.19-43. ISSN 1669-3248.

This paper explores the "creation of political subjectivity" as a category of analysis, which emerged from our research on "The School as a Stage of Political Socialization: Attitudes, Meanings, and Practices of Youth Citizenship Participation" (SEL 1 & 2, from four different Argentine regions, participants in the national project "Young Peace Constructors.") One of the goals of this study was to understand how young men and women resignified the meanings and practices of citizenship participation. The research methodolog y involved 3 focus groups in a comprehensive hermeneutical model supplemented by a semiotic iconological analysis. Fraser's theory (2003) on justice as distribution and recognition based on the idea of"parity of participation" was central for theoretical discussions. We also incorporated De Sousa Santos (2003) distinctions between notions of inequality and exclusion, and sustained a critical approach (Dewey's & the Frankfurt School) to understand both the school, as well as the processes of the creation of political subjectivity (Alvarado& Ospina, 2004, 2006; Zemelman 2004). Among the research basic findings we discuss the category of polycentric citizenship and the shift from the notion of rational, institutionalized, state-oriented participation based on observable behaviors, to a performative notion staged on daily contexts and based on the construction of agreements and rules. Several elements of political subjectivity were identified, such as autonomy, reflexivity, historical consciousness, worth of the public, articulation between lived and spoken action, new distributions of power, which -acknowledging the wholeness of each human being and the necessary plurality.
