The comparative analysis of Durkheim and Weber have for a starting point the denominated parsonian synthesis, according to which a crucial correspondence exists between them: the postulation of a common system of values as frame of reference for social action. In the seventies, the thesis of the divergence prevails, that maintains, on the contrary, that between the theories of these two classics of sociology rises irreconcilables differences, impossible to surpass. Since the nineties, the analysts have tried to obtain a balance between these two positions, searching for the meeting points and, at the same time, the distances. In syntony with the demands for investigations that avoid extreme simplifications, I believe that it is precise to respect the internal complexity of each theory and to establish with exactitude the zones or axes of comparison. Focusing in the problem of the State, certainly an aspect little explored of the Durkheim/Weber relation, this article identifies and explores in detail some of the axes that make possible the confrontation, that is to say: the consensus in the exercise of repression; the individual freedom like a limit to state power; the nature and effects of political action; the State - Society dichotomy; the intervention of the State in the capitalist economy.
