Abstract

CARRARIO, Marta. Women's challenges nowadays. Aljaba [online]. 2008, vol.12, pp.161-173. ISSN 1669-5704.

The women struggle for gaining rights equality has enabled them to have access to the public world. However, this has not meant giving up the private world. On the contrary, they have accumulated responsibilities, challenges and commitments that arise tensions and uncertainties associated with difficulties in reconciling times and places of these two processes just mentioned. I intend to explore the difficult conciliation between public and work life as well as private and domestic life that undergo women that live in both worlds, trying to answer questions such as - the fact that women obtain a salary in exchange of work - Does it imply a resignation to develop her private life or at least, carry it out in a way following the traditional models that suppose a heavy burden of work and dedication?, Is it possible to talk about a "care crisis" as a consequence of rights equality that has led us to the public space?, How can we solve the conflict of interests between the two jobs (salaried - domestic) when there exists a scarce social and masculine answer to a culture change and women's behavior?.

Keywords : Public space; Private [domestic space]; Care work; Double presence [absence].
