MUSSART, N.B.  y  ROSAS, A.C.. Proteinogram of Ara chloropterus like diagnostic tool of red macaws of the Esteros del Iberá. Rev. vet. [online]. 2022, vol.33, n.1, pp.17-19. ISSN 1669-6840.  http://dx.doi.org/10.30972/vet.3315872.

Species reintroduction as a conservation strategy, requires that the release individuals have the necessary skills and conditions to be able to function in a natural and wild environment. It is necessary avoid poor health states and all those pathologies that compromise the specimen’s survival. The interpretation of the proteinogram allows a better evaluation of the individuals. The variations of the different protein fractions in the blood serum are associated with specific health conditions. The aim of this study was to establish the proteinogram of Red Macaws (Ara chloropterus), by serum protein electrophoresis. It was included in the evaluation of the health condition of the individuals in the reintroduction program of the specie in the Iberá wetlands. 16 blood serum were analyzed. These belonged to different individuals. The pattern of protein fractionation by electrophoresis showed 6 protein fractions, pre-albumin, albumin, a-globulin, P-globulin and Y-globulin. No associate disease was found in any of them. The proteinogram can be very useful when the reference values are available. The study carried out here brings us closer to these parameters in a defined species included in a conservation project.
