Currently in the city of Salta, there is no reliable identification system for pets. There is also ignorance on the part of the owners, about responsible pet ownership and animal welfare. That is why this veterinary technological research and development project was launched, to provide the necessary means for the correct identification of domestic canines and felines, in conjunction with the dissemination of responsible pet ownership. The project is based on the study and development of a prototype electronic pet identification system by incorporating a subcutaneous microchip linking the canine and/or feline data with those of the owner. All this information will be recorded in a management computer system (GIS), developed by the Faculty of Engineering. The operational center for processing the data obtained will be in charge of the Faculty of Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences, who will be in charge of carrying out evaluation, statistical and epidemiological analysis of the canine and feline population of the City of Salta. Another resource in development is a mobile application (APP) of public access that will record data of the owners and their pets, which will be downloaded into the computer system configured in the Faculty of Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences. The owners will have access to see the sanitary status of their pet, obtain information related to responsible ownership, know the most frequent pathologies in the region, know the list of veterinary doctors of the province and among other options, locate their pets in case of loss.
