The objective of the present study was to recognize the relationship between the variation in plasma lactate concentrations and the arterial pressure of canine patients with chronic valvular heart disease undergoing the 6-minute walk test in high altitude conditions (2650 m.a.s.l.). Seven animals were selected and diagnosed at the cardiology service of the Veterinary Clinic of the University of La Salle, being classified as stage B2 patients according to the classification of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM). Lactate concentration and blood pressure were compared before and after the 6 minutes WT. An average distance walked of 356.14 +/- 92.13 meters was found, which is considerably less than the distances reported in healthy patients under the same environmental conditions. Likewise, a reduction in systolic blood pressure was observed after the walk test (112.71 +/- 31.83 mmHg) com­ pared to the initial values (132.14 +/- 26.67 mmHg) p<0.05. This suggests the presentation of a post-exercise hypotension phenomenon of which so far not many reports have been found in the canine species.
