Resumen

VISENTINI, Carlos. Courtesy and relationship between men and women in the middle ages. Rev. Esc. Hist. [online]. 2006, n.5, pp.239-260. ISSN 1669-9041.

In the  th c, 12 th c, in the countries of Western Europe, important changes at all levels ocurred to such an extent that the word renaissance is mentioned. in our opinion, one of the most significant changes occurs in relation to the consideration and treatmen towards women.             Accustomed to war and masculine comradeship without any refinement, the tough feudal lords undergo important changes as to control  their violent impulses, keep the posture and adopt good manners in order to respect and hnor women, who were idealized more and more.             Turned into lords, they create a court of people at their service around them and educate the young within a new form of relationship, which was called courtesy. it is the women´s presence that stimulates the chyanges in masculine practices. women are the main exponent of men´s economic power of their prodigality and good taste.             Our research aims at showing the consequences that can be observed from the moment the concept and treatment to women changed. in one way or another, we intend to point out how a transformation in private life has important consequences in social life.
