Resumen

SERAPIO, Carolina. The Patriotic March written by Vicente López: Depiction of a historical scene of tension. Rev. Esc. Hist. [online]. 2006, n.5, pp.339-352. ISSN 1669-9041.

Originally, it was the introductory poem of La Lira Argentina (Argentine Stanzas). The Patriotic March written by Vicente López y Planes later became the National Anthem of the Argentina Republic. It may be interpreted as a literary depiction of the historic events and background, back in those days, of a Nation-to-be. The course of action taken in the historical process should not be analyzed without taking into account two main aspects: on the one hand, the armed fight of forces against the Spanish Empire and, on the other hand, the ideological struggle encouraged by the native leaders (criollos). The latter mentioned aspect involves the type of actions which are essentially carried out to produce and spread out a specific idiosyncrasy. This leads us to focusing on the analysis of the literature where it has been expressed. From this point of view, the Argentine Anthem was inspired by - or it even resulted from - a number of events which created a scene of tension, and are referred to as: 1. the speakers: the authors of the message and the social agents. Different - and even contradictory - positions were taken as regards the communicating agents. 2. the listeners: the targets or recipients of the message. Different perspectives to hear and get the message across. 3. the scene created: "reality" in sharp contrast to "will"; transforming actions paradoxically placed above a sense of belonging; an European side contrasting a pre-Hispanic nature. Regarding the birth of a Nation, a constructivist position results from a massive sense of will, as an essentialist position rises from a former sense of a shared identity.
